jingpreraindragonwellAs ever, Jing Tea’s website wonderfully introduces this tea, leading one through its origin, picking and details of its character and brewing.

The leaves themselves are the superb color and texture of a well made, hand processed Dragon Well. Beautifully aromatic with the distinct creamy, hazelnut aroma promised. However I wasn’t able to discern the citrus scent in the dry leaves. Some leaves still display slight downy patches which at first glance can appear somewhat like mould. Nonetheless, the gorgeous aroma, texture and color of the leaves had me delving into the packet.

I brewed as instructed at 75℃ for 3 to 4 minutes. At 3 minutes the liquor was a bright grassy green with a creamy, grassy character with just a hint of hazelnut. The creaminess of the hazelnut became more apparent at 3 and a half minutes and the grassy character was much more strengthly at the 4 minute mark. However the creamy hazelnut was still abundantly apparent on the palette and lasts wonderfully after the mouthful.

I personally found this quite a strengthly Dragon Well but the hazelnut character is not only distinctive and pleasing but also intriguing and as I write this I am tempted to go and make a cup.
