I can't recall a time when I have ever turned down an opportunity to review a Dragonwell tea. This particular type of green tea is my favorite of all green teas. One thing that struck me about this offering from Hayes Tea was the large size of the leaves. While this offering has the traditional broad and flattened leaf shape, some of these leaves are much larger and wider than I have seen before. The dry leaves have a strong vegetal aroma. I infused a heaping teaspoon of leaves in eight ounces of 180-degree water for three minutes. The tea is very pale in color, making me wonder if perhaps I should have used more leaf (although I did follow the Hayes preparation recommendations). The flavor of this tea is mellow and sweet, with only a fraction of the vegetal element that came through so strongly in the scent of the dry leaves now being detected in the taste. On its own, this is a decent tea and I think it will appeal to anyone who wants to get into green tea but doesn't necessarily love the strong green (e.g. spinach, asparagus, grass) flavors that are often involved. This is a milder tea that can offer the benefits of green tea without an intense flavor. I found it to be enjoyable both warm and at room temperature. I did not try it as an iced tea, but I suspect that because it is so mild, the addition of ice could result in a watered down and too-dilute tea. While this was a decent tea, I rated it as a 6.5 because I think it is inferior to many of the other Dragonwell teas that I have tasted. The flavor was too weak for my personal preferences, and the chestnut flavor that I seek in this type of tea was noticeably lacking. While I would certainly not refuse this tea if someone offered me a cup of it, I don't see myself going out of my way to obtain it for myself.

Hmm interesting. I didn’t find it to be too grassy at all. I found the nutty flavor to be more prominent but this may have been skewed since I had reviewed another Dragon well side by side that was more floral.

I’m new to dragon well…so I have a long ways to go in getting a true depiction of the flavor profile

I think you may have misread my review…I was saying exactly what you said…this tea is NOT grassy. 🙂
