Thumbs up!"Lacking in complexity, this tea does have a pleasant taste with a lingering dryness that will encourage the next sip and the next..."

driftwoodoolong17Driftwood Teas is tea company that is based in the United Kingdom. They have a very crisp and clean website that is easy to navigate. One feature that I really enjoy is the in depth tasting notes for some of the teas. I have tried a couple of their oolongs and absolutely loved them. I just wish that they would add the option to convert the prices into other then the British pound.

This particular oolong is one that is harvested in limited quantities each year, only 200kg. Tea Master Tea Master Zhang Bingshen is in charge of deciding just when to pick and process these beautiful leaves. The dry tea leaves are a treasure which happens to be dark green and curled up into little fists. The aroma is sweet and creamy with a hint of grain.

I set the leaves up to brew using my Breville OneTouch using a water temperature of 195 degrees and a steep time of 2 minutes. The resulting liquor is a pale gold with the fragrance of orchids and cream. The tea has a smooth, almost creamy, texture to it. The flavors meld together so well that it is rather difficult to pick them apart though I do a natural sweetness from the florals, a hint of stonefruit and bread. There isn't a lingering aftertaste as much as a lingering dry crispness. It all mixes together to produce an enjoyable cup of tea.

This hasn't been my favorite oolong from this company as it is missing a complexity that I demand of oolongs in this price range. Now if someone was to offer me a cup however I would be happy to drink it down.
