Thumbs up!"As far as the taste goes, this tea does have a strong mineral flavor which when wrapped by the sweetness from the floral component makes for an interesting juxtaposition. "

cantonuellowoolongCanton Tea Co. is one of my favorite tea vendors. They are located in the United Kingdom and always have first rate teas. I also really appreciate the fact that they have an excellent search engine on their website as well as a currency converter because let's face it if I have to work hard to find my tea I might very well head off to another vendor.

Yellow Gold, also known as Huang Jin Gui or Golden Osmanthus Oolong, won the gold medal at the Great Taste Awards in 2011. The dry leaves give off a floral aroma and are folded up into small packets ranging in color from a pale spring green to a deeper olive. Here is the blurb from the website about this tea.

Huang Jin Gui means Golden Osmanthus, so called because its yellowish green leaves produce a golden liquor and it has a distinct Osmanthus flower-like aroma. It is a high-grown tea from Fujian that starts with a fruity flavour but becomes more sweetly floral.

It does indeed brew up to golden liquor and the aroma is a delightful floral one that I don't recognize so I will take Canton Tea's word for it being osmanthus. As far as the taste goes, this tea does have a strong mineral flavor which when wrapped by the sweetness from the floral component makes for an interesting juxtaposition. There was no fruitiness that I was able to discover. There is no aftertaste which I find unusual in an oolong.

This is indeed an interesting oolong and one that I can see really appealing at times. For the most part however I found the in your face mineral flavor in the first steep to be off putting. As I brewed up a second pot and found it to be much more appealing with a nuttiness coming forth.
