driftwoodorientalbeautMy preferred style of tea has to be the oolong and in that category I tend to go back and forth on which is my favorite depending on the day. Today is definitely the Oriental Beauty as I am having the pleasure of sipping on an excellent representative of that style.

This is a beautiful tea though I do admit that being surprised that that the leaves weren't crumpled up into a little fist. Instead they are long, curly and range in color from a pale gold to brown to almost black. The aroma they give off is one that is grainy and yeasty.

I set them up to steep using 195 degree water and a steep time of 2 minutes. The resulting liquor is a golden brown with very little aroma at all. I am able to pick just a hint of nuts and grain.

This tea has a slightly oily texture leading to a rather long sweet aftertaste. There is a strong base of stone fruit with hints of cloves and cinnamon. Rather different from the primarily floral oriental beauties that I have tried in the past but all around delicious.

I do recommend this tea to oolong lovers looking for something different. It is quite delicious and has real staying power as I was able to get three pots of tea from the same leaves before they gave up the ghost.
