safronfusionchamcitrusWith tea all the rage right now, it's easy for businesses to get lost in the mix of things if they don't offer a unique product. Saffron Fusion takes tea to a different place. They offer unique teas and tisanes that are infused with saffron. Saffron is typically found in the culinary world and is derived from the Crocus flower. It embodies a savory sweet hay-like taste. Saffron is also considered to have anti-cancer properties as well as other benefits which can be read on Saffron Fusions Why Saffron page.

Saffron Fusion's Chamomile Citrus combines 20% Grade 1 Saffron, Orange peels, chamomile flowers, rosehip peels, lemongrass, lemon myrtle, hibiscus, spearmint, natural flavors, and orange petals. This combination creates for a beautiful blend of colors. Considering this tea contains saffron I took a peak in the tea bag to try to see just how much was in it. I was surprised to find only two threads but after researching a little goes a long way. Typically only a pinch is used in a soup or stew that would serve four to six people.

I received two tea bags in what first appeared to be made out of a strange cotton or some other fiber but when wet showed that it was a plastic compound. I brewed the tea bag in water at almost boiling for 3 minutes. The liquor was surprisingly pinkish amber in color and had a very pleasant aroma. Most herbal teas tend to have a rather thin body, maybe it's the saffron in this blend that makes it fuller. The taste is delicious, chamomile is not overpowering but is equally balanced with touches of rose hips and lemon. The hibiscus is present and blends with the rosehip flavor. This is probably one of the better herbal blends I have had as far as taste, I'm not too enthused about the natural flavoring, but I'm sure this helps even out the flavors of all the herbs.

Overall, if you're looking for a nice citrus herbal night cap, this is great! Saffron Fusion does a great job at breaking the mold in traditional herbal teas.
