jingpreraindragonwellI've heard nothing but good of Jing Tea, a popular vendor among luxury hotels and Michelin starred restaurants, and was ecstatic to finally have in my hands samples from such an acclaimed retailer. Better yet, my absolute favorite leaf, the illustrious and storied Chinese Dragon Well, was my first taste of Jing Tea.

Jing's supreme organic variety offers the best of the season's harvest and is a step above the standard Dragon Well offered, a leaf very impressive on its own. Without question, however, the disparity between the two is quite apparent.

There are few Dragon Wells that successfully hold all of the quintessential characteristics of a commendable leaf, and Jing's Organic Dragon Well fits with ease into the far too small cluster of such high quality offerings. Yet the supreme variety is this and much more, possessing a grassier composition unique only to the premier harvests of a most particular and finicky leaf. Moreover, each brew is much brighter than the Dragon Well norm, though this refuses to overcome the enjoyable sweet, mellow, and nutty notes at the liquor's forefront.

A splendid Long Jing such as this can and should be experimented with. I typically brewed under 175°F for just over one minute. Had I a larger quantity of the leaf, ranging water temperatures, quantities of loose leaf, and durations would have been administered. Nevertheless, my relatively standard method of brewing worked just fine.

Perfectly nutty and eccentrically vegetal and radiant, Jing Tea's Supreme Organic Dragon Well is one of the best I've had of the varietal. The tea doesn't just make for an acceptable brew; it provides a sheer pleasurable experience.
